The Chestermere Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce a new $1,000 scholarship for a graduating Grade 12 student attending Chestermere High School or St. Gabriel the Archangel School.
The scholarship will recognize a student who demonstrates leadership, community involvement, initiative and a commitment to their future. Students planning to attend university, college, a trades or apprenticeship program, or another recognized post-secondary or career-training program will be eligible to apply.
Chamber membership is not required to apply.
Applications open in February
Applications will open in early February and will be promoted through both Chestermere high schools, the Chamber website and social media, as well as through participating Chamber member businesses.
The application will be completed online and will be designed to be straightforward for students. Applicants will be asked to provide:
- Student name and contact information
- Current school
- Intended post-secondary institution and program
- Expected program start date
- A brief list of volunteer and community involvement
- Optional employment or work experience
- One reference from a teacher, employer, coach, volunteer coordinator, community leader or another adult who can speak to the student's character, leadership or community involvement
- A short written response of 500 words or less
The written response will ask:
What are your education and career goals, why have you chosen this path, and how do you hope to contribute to your community in the future?
The scholarship is not intended to be based solely on academic achievement. The Chamber wants to recognize a student who has demonstrated initiative, leadership and a commitment to making a positive contribution, whether their future path takes them into business, the trades, health care, education, technology, the arts or another field.
